Portrait of a Yogi - Meet Julie!

By Amy Boyle in amy boyle photography portraits me yoga yoga on york brixham danceworks teacher

I have known Julie for 17 years. In that time she has been many inspirational things: a friend, a sister, a wife, a mother, and a dance teacher. Now add one more, Yoga instructor. I had the good fortune of making time for a portrait session with Julie while we were in Maine earlier this month.

It is clear to me that in your professional life your personal imagery is so important. Your new clients get to know you from that first glimpse of your profile picture and reading your bio. Having portraits that genuinely reflect you and your personality is critical.

Now without further adieu, I'd like to introduce Julie!

Three words that describe you -

Grateful:  I am so grateful for the times of beauty and grace in my life.  I am also grateful for the awareness I am cultivating to notice and appreciate them.

Hopeful:  My hopes are high for my future, and that of my family and friends.  Staying positive is such a powerful tool.

Approachable:  I love when people connect with me and share parts of themselves.  What a gift!

When did Yoga become a new focus for you?
I began my yoga practice about 5 years ago after being a dancer all my life.  It was like falling in love.  I still have a huge crush on yoga, and I can't get enough.

Describe your teaching style
Teaching yoga is guiding people through their own practice.  It is such an honor to inspire and encourage others on their path.  I also like to add a little humor so that no one takes themselves too seriously.

Who inspires you and why
I am inspired daily by people who care for themselves as they would a good friend.

Favorite quote or song lyric
"Always leave enough room in your life to do something that makes you happy, satisfied, or even joyous." - Paul Hawken

Anything else you'd like to say...
I am delighted to begin teaching yoga this Fall at Yoga on York  in York, Maine, and to share yoga with dancers and their families at Brixham Danceworks in So. Berwick, Maine.
